After a long bus ride and stop at the border from Bulgaria we got to Istanbul. We’re staying with a friend of Jasmina’s who lives here in Sultanahmet. We’ll probably be here for a few days, after which time we’ll head on through Turkey to Georgia and Armenia. Not much to report other than that. See you, Space Cowboy.

After hitch hiking out to and down the Romanian coast a bit, we found ourselves by the border with Bulgaria in a nice little hippie town called Vama Veche. We hung out there for a few days on the Black Sea, camped out on the beach. It rained more than we would have liked, but it was still pretty nice. After that, we walked down to the border and ended up getting three different rides toward Varna in Bulgaria. From there, we took a bus to Sofia. We got here early this morning and will stay tonight and head to Istanbul tomorrow.

After an interesting few days, we’re in Bucharest, Romania.

We took the train from Budapest to Brasov several nights ago (12 hour trip). In Brasov we ended up attempting to sleep under my tent’s rain fly in a park, but it was raining so hard that not much sleep was achieved. We chose to get out of there ASAP and took a bus to the edge of town to hitch hike south. After several hours of waiting with our hand-drawn sign that said “Istanbul”, we succumbed to our tiredness and pitched the tent in a vacant lot in east Brasov. We got several hours of sleep before being awakened by the scorching sunlight.

We spent the rest of the day trying to flag down a ride. Finally, as we were about to give up, Ovidiu came through in the clutch. A nice college student coming from Cluj Napoca gave us a lift to Bucharest. We checked into a hostel and had a shower, quite a luxury compared to the last few days.

We’re about to get some much-needed sleep. Tomorrow we’ll continue on to Constanta and Vama Vecha on the Black Sea coast, a recommendation from Ovidiu. After that, it’s south until Istanbul.

Stay posted!

In Budapest

I arrived safely and generally in one piece earlier today (I think? My internal clock is all wacky). I met up with Jasmina at the airport and headed back into town for some beers. Time to get some sleep for now, let the adventures begin!

And I’m off!

Thanks to everybody who spent time with me these last few days, I’m glad that I’m able to keep a good memory of Seattle at hand. I’m trying to soak up as much as I can before I depart, ne’er to be seen again (hopefully that’s not the case, actually).

With that being said, however, I’m gonna keep things brief and take off. My flight leaves Seattle at 1845 and I arrive in London tomorrow at 1150. From there I have several hours until my 1405 departure, arriving in Budapest 1735. Keep an eye out for upcoming posts regarding actual adventure, rather than this waiting nonsense which everybody is sure to hate.
